FernUniversität in Hagen (University of Hagen)

The FernUniversität in Hagen (University of Hagen) is the only state-funded distance education university in the German-speaking community that offers quality-assured, supervised distance teaching with Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, doctoral studies as well as numerous certificates and Open Access studies.

Established in 1974, it is today Germany’s largest university in terms of student numbers, offering German-language study programs and flexible study options that can be adapted to the life situations of its diverse student body. All academic fields pursue both theoretical and applied research in the academic fields of its four faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Economics and Business Administration as well as Law.

The Chair of Enterprise-wide Software Systems and the related research group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is involved in research on information systems for manufacturing and logistics, multi-agent systems, planning and scheduling, and discrete-event simulation. In addition, the group has a strong background in semiconductor value chain simulation, production planning, scheduling, and multi-agent systems including ontologies.

The University of Hagen holds a strong position in research and distinguishes itself by its top class specialized research activities.

Role

The role of University of the Hagen in the project is to develop simulation-based algorithms for planning of production and engineering/development and value chain activities. Moreover, designing an ontology for semiconductor value chains with focus on engineering, demand fulfillment, and planning activities is another planned activity.

Key Contribution

The University of Hagen will contribute to Work Packages 1 and 2 and to one use case.
